Bear Necessities

Bear Necessities is a charming cabin nestled on a mountainside approximately 3,700 feet elevation yet only ¾ of a mile from the heart of Maggie Valley. Relax on the deck while soaking in the cool mountain air and the great southern view of the mountains. You can still enjoy the view when inside the cabin from the large picture windows. The view is always with you whether you are in the living room curled up in front of the fireplace or enjoying a family meal around the large dining table or the open accommodating kitchen. Paved access to driveway, wood burning fireplace, cable TV, WiFi, wrap-around deck with southern exposure, ceiling fans, and lots of windows to enjoy the mountain breeze. At almost 4,000 feet elevation you won’t notice the cabin does not have AC. This cozy cabin is the perfect place to enjoy the beauty and serenity of your mountain getaway.

Within a 15 minute drive into Maggie Valley, you’ll find Cataloochee Ski Area, Tony’s Tube World (snow tubing), Wheels Through Time (historic motorcycle, as featured on History Channels “American Pickers”), horseback riding and golfing. Just past Maggie Valley, you can be at Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee within 25 minutes or so (even if you do not gamble it has some of the best restaurants around).

A short drive of less than 20 minutes, and you’ll be at Ingles and Publix grocery stores, Walmart, or Downtown, Main Street in Waynesville. There you can enjoy restaurants like Sauced, Sweet Onion, Boojum Brewery, Firefly and many more. While enjoying Downtown Waynesville and Main Street, stop by the many boutiques, customer furniture stores and even a dog friendly bakery.

This cabin is also is a short 30-45 minute drive to the Cataloochee Valley Overlook, Blue Ridge Parkway, The Smoky Mountain National Park, Pisgah National Forest, several golf courses.

Asheville, is within 40-45 minutes, and you may visit the Biltmore Estates & Winery, several micro-breweries, Bryson City (home of the Smoky Mountain Railway and “Polar Express” during the Christmas Holiday), a little over an hour to Transylvania County (home of the most waterfalls in the United States), and over 100 Antique Shops.

Just under an hour away in Hendersonville, you can visit Sierra Nevada Brewery (with their enormous dining and Tap Room), gem mining, white water rafting, zip-lining and much more in the surrounding areas. You are just about an hour and half to Gatlinburg, TN and Pigeon Forge (home of Dollywood).

Located on a moderately steep, paved road. We do encourage you to utilize a 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle during the winter months. Seasonally, we do experience inclement weather in this region, that may limit accessibility.
